PBS recently produced an informative 7-minute video about the work of doulas and highlighting a particular pregnancy assistance program in the greater New York City area focused on helping under privileged women to receive the birth care provide by a doula.

Can Doulas Make a Difference?

This was a fairly even handed presentation on the purpose and roles of doulas in the birthing environment and is a great introduction to anyone just learning about doulas for the very first time.

Perhaps, the video downplayed the tension that does exist between the medical community and doulas in general, especially in the hospital environment. However, it does present a positive outlook on the situation. It  illustrate how doulas and medical professionals can work together for the benefit of the mother and her baby.
