What’s in the Course

This course is written by program founder, nurse, and doula Rachel Leavitt.
It includes content based on evidence-based practice and research, including theories on advocacy, collaboration skills, physiologic birth, coping mechanisms, natural movement, and labor support.

  • How to communicate more effectively with the rest of the birth team, including care providers.
  • How to advocate for your client in a way that promotes their own decision making abilities.

Meet the Owner and Lead Trainer

Imagine being able to work side by side with a care provider, nurse, and partner as a team all working together with the same goal: holistic care of the birthing mother. This is not just a dream, but a goal and passion for Rachel Leavitt, one that she hopes to share with her community and students. A mother of seven children, all born naturally, in different settings and care providers, Rachel has the unique background and experience to help bring about this vision.

Rachel graduated from the University of Utah with her BSN in 2004. Since then she has worked in postpartum, NICU, labor and delivery, and as a nurse at a birth center. She receive her doula certification from Childbirth International in 2010 and has been teaching others how to be doulas since 2011.
