Pain is an issue that doulas and labor support professionals need to learn to deal with. While the video below does not talk about labor pain, it does give pain another perspective and helps us understand that we much look at all aspects of pain. This includes the emotional and psychological aspects, as well as the physical. Take this time to think about what aspects in your life contribute to or take away your perceptions of pain. Then think about how you can share this with your clients to help them understand that pain is a much deeper issue than just feeling uncomfortable. In the New Beginnings Doula Training, you will learn about these aspects and how to help your clients work through them.
Rachel has worked as a register nurse (BSN from University of Utah) since 2004 with a work history in Labor and Delivery, NICU and Postpartum Care. She is also the founder of New Beginnings Doula Training which she organized in 2011. When she's not busy being a mother and grandmother, she can be found reading research papers related to some aspect of childbirth.
