Doula Certification in Australia

with No Comments

Recently, we’ve enjoyed an increase in new student registrations from Australia and New Zealand. We’ve also had the same question asked by prospective students at least a handful of times, so it’s probably about time that we addressed the question in a blog post. The question that we get goes something like this:

Your training is an affordable option compared to other companies here in Australia. Is the certification that you offer recognized in Australia?

Below is my most recent answer to this question, which I feel best addresses the issue:

Yes, the short answer is that our course is recognized in Australia. What that means however is a little more complicated.

It means that there is no laws governing the certification of doula training organizations. Other doula courses that are certified through training organizations mean that they have met the certifying requirements of the training organization, not government issued standards.

We are a small training and certifying company for doulas. As such we have not sought (or paid for) the endorsement of larger certifying organizations. This allows us to continue operating at a lower cost, because we are not paying for the additional credentials.

That said, our training and certification is a comprehensive and affordable alternative to the more expensive, [albeit] local options available in Australia.
