doula in Marshall, Missouri
Me after the birth of my 6th child at a birth-center.

Rachel Leavitt RN, CD-Providing professional labor support that helps your birth team put you at the center.

The thought entered my head that this woman needed a doula.  I was working as a nurse at the time in the middle of a c-section.  I was going about my charting and prep work, but when I turned to my client (I like that word better), I saw the terror in her eyes.  We all knew this c-section was needed, but I also knew she needed more support and care than I could give her at the time.  I remember wishing there had been someone else who knew and understood birth who could be with her at that moment.  Thus began my journey into learning how to support women during childbirth.  After years of experience in labor and delivery, NICU, and postpartum nursing, I found my place acting as labor support (something like a birth coach) in a new career as a professional doula.

Having a doula goes far beyond just helping with natural births or helping women breathe with them.  A doula is a guide, or an advocate, that acts as a bridge between your world and the medical world, birth sometimes enters.  They are able to help you navigate the waters of birth, while helping you understand your choices and allowing your own voice to be heard.

After spending 7 years as a nurse in Utah, 6 years as a doula and nurse at a birth center in Arizona, I’m now happy to call Marshall, Missouri my home and bring the connection, guiding, and know how of an experienced nurse and doula to this beautiful city.
