Doula Students Getting Involved in Their Communities

Recently, we put out the following question to our students on our facebook page:

I would love to highlight doulas/organizations that are working to educate women and the medical community about doulas and normal birth. If you have anything you can send my way that describes any community involvement, I’ll put it in my newsletter.

We received responses back from KC Walker out of Stillwater, Oklahoma, who was contacted by a local magazine to profile the work of doulas in her area. That magazine article will be coming out in January. Check out KC’s website here: BirthYourWayServices.com.

We also got a response back from Kindra Joy, who pointed us to a non-profit in the state of Michigan that services lower-income women by providing free doula services and doula training scholarships. Check out MichiganDoulaConnection.org.

We strongly feel that community involvement is an integral part to the success of any doula. We like to highlight what our students and others are doing to strengthen and improve the birthing environment in their local community. If you’ve got anything worth sharing, please send it our way and we’ll highlight you in the near future.
