A Volunteer-Driven Resource for Doulas Everywhere
Did you know there’s an entire website dedicated to doula laws in the United States? It’s called the Doula Law Project. While it was created years ago, it hasn’t been updated in quite some time. You can see the site here: doula-law.childbirthlibrary.org
Now, we’re bringing it back to life.
The goal? To create a comprehensive, volunteer-driven resource for doulas everywhere and sharing up-to-date information about laws, policies, and programs that impact our work. This includes:
- State-by-state doula laws and licensing requirements, possibly expanding to worldwide
- Medicaid reimbursement programs in the United States (and how they work)
- Legislation updates and advocacy resources, and information relevant to all doulas regardless of training or affiliation
This isn’t a New Beginnings Doula Training only initiative. The Doula Law Project is for the entire doula community. We want to empower doulas with accurate, accessible information so we can all better serve our clients and advocate for our profession.

First Up: Medicaid Compensation
We hear so many questions about Medicaid coverage for doula services — which states offer it, how reimbursement works, and what’s required to qualify.
We want to make it public on the Doula Law Project site.
We’ll also link it from our existing Medicaid page outlining where New Beginnings Doula Training is approved, so doulas can find the information they need quickly.
We Need Volunteers
The site is outdated — but with your help, it can become a go-to resource for doulas across the country. We’re looking for volunteers who can help us:
- Research laws and regulations in their state or country
- Share Medicaid reimbursement experiences and information
- Update and fact-check existing content
- Suggest new topics or resources to add
Whether you have an hour a month or a few hours a week, your contributions will make a difference.
How to Get Involved
